Summer Days.
A Fairy Tale.
The Story of Sydney
Once there was a beautiful princess named Sydney. She had dark brown hair, blue eyes, and skin as white as snow, she was kind, sweet and, quiet, but at the same time she was very confident, strong willed, and brave. The name of her Kingdom was, Secret~Woods. Sydney's mother died long ago, but she still had The King, her father, whom she loved dearly, and he loved her as well. But, her father wasn't very fond of Sydney going into town, because he was afraid for her safety. He didn't know what it was like in town. But, one day the king had to go to the kingdom next door to talk about wars and such. So Sydney decided to sneak out and go into town. When she saw the town she thought it was the MOST wonderful, amazing thing that she had ever seen! There were so many things to see, like the bakery, and the flower shops, they were all just SO beautiful! But there was something that really caught her eye, and that was the handsome man working in the metal shop, so she decided to go in there. So Sydney goes in to talk to him. "Hi, i was wondering if you could make me 4 horse shoes and a sword please." She said. The man said "Okay, but first you have to tell me your name." Sydney looks at him and says "Well, what's your name?" The handsome young man says "Well I asked you first." Sydney laughed and said "Sydney, my name is Sydney" and he says "Ya know u have the same name as the princess" Sydney says "Yeah, well..." and he said "Well nice to meet you Sydney, my name is Matthew, but u can call me Matt" and he takes her hand and kisses her lovely long fingers. and Sydney giggles and says " It's nice to meet you Matthew." Matthew got up and asked Sydney "I know this is sudden and such… But, will you accompany me to dinner tonight?" Sydney answered with a nod Matthew cheered and spun her around, when he realized what he just did, he stammered an apology and sat down to get started on her order. "I will see you tonight at 8:00pm by the fountain." Matthew said to Sydney "Alright that sounds nice, see you then." She walked out waving goodbye, Matthew waved back and yelled to her "I'll see you tonight my beautiful lady." Sydney giggled and made her way back home. "Oh dear, he doesn't realize that I am the princess, and I'm not sure if I even want to tell him. I feel that it might mess everything up if I tell him I am royalty. Okay I won't say anything unless he does. Wait! What about father, he would have a fit if he realized that I wanted to go to town and see a commoner. The maids will see me leaving and tell him! I guess I'll have to sneak out.. Oh dear I do hate lying to father, but this something that I want so much. I'll do it!" Sydney thought to herself.
A few hours later she was climbing out of her second story window on a bunch of sheets tied together. She jumped off her hand made ladder and climbed onto her beautiful white horse and rode to town. She arrives in front of the fountain, and begins to look around for Matthew. There! in the near distance she sees him, he rides up to her on his majestic black stallion and said "m'lady, it is nice to see you again." Sydney curtseys (well, as well as one can curtsey while on a horse) and thanks him. "Now then, we should be on our ways." Matthew said. Then they were off to the surprise location.
A few minutes later they arrived at their destination. "Where… Where are we?" Sydney stammered, she was completely taken aback by the beautiful old castle that stood before them. "It's an old abandon castle, a couple of the town folks are holding a ball here." Matthew explained. Sydney gaped at him "Wow! That's amazing!" Matthew smiled, jumped off the horse, he helped Sydney off and he escorted her into the castle's ballroom. The ballroom was a huge room with a beautiful chandelier hanging on the ceiling. There was a table filled with food that that townspeople brought, and a band playing by the door, and everyone from town was there from the littlest kids to the old grandparents. "This is amazing! How often do they have these things?" Sydney asked. "Uh at least once a month.. pretty amazing isn't it?" Matthew said. "Yes! Way better than the balls at the royal castle!" Sydney exclaimed. "Wait what? You've been to the royal castle?" Matthew asked. Uh oh "Uhh Yeah I have a close friend that's in the royal family, so sometimes I get invited to the balls." Sydney explained. "Oh.. Okay I see." Matthew said. "Whew." Sydney thought to herself. "Would you like to dance?" Matthew asked Sydney. Sydney nodded her head, and they headed onto the dance floor. Matthew put Sydney's hands in his, and started twirling. "This ball is so much fun. It's not all stuffy like the royal balls." Sydney said to Matthew as they were dancing. "Yeah these balls are pretty fun, but it'd still be nice to be able to go to a real ball." Matthew said. "Well the royal castle is having a masquerade ball this weekend. Would you like to be my date?" Sydney asked. "Is that proper? For a lady to ask a man?" Matthew asked. "I can do as I please." Matthew laughed "I would love to go to the ball with you." Matthew bent down and kiss her fingers and escorted her outside.
"What are we doing out here?" Sydney asked. "I just wanted to do something." Matthew explained. "What?" Sydeny asked. "Just close your eyes…" Sydney did as she was told, once her eyes were closed, Matthew leaned down and kissed her very softly on her lips. Sydney was shocked that he kissed her, but she didn't mind. They finished kissing and Matthew looked at her straight in the eyes and said "I am so happy that you decided to come tonight." "Me too." Sydney said.
DING DONG DING DONG! Oh no! It was 10:00pm already Sydney needed to be home by 10:00pm. "Oh no!" Sydney said. "What, What is it?" Matthew asked. "I have to be home in.. well.. now!" Sydney exclaimed. "Oh no!" Matthew grabbed Sydney's hand and guided her through the ballroom and out the door to their horses. "Please let me escort you home." Matthew pleaded to Sydney. "No, no it's alright." and Sydney took off galloping away. "It looks like she is going toward the royal castle.. No, no it can't be." Matthew thought to himself. "Well just to make sure…" Matthew jumped onto his horse and followed Sydney at a safe distance. A few minutes later he sees her in the royal stables talking to a maid. The only words he heard were the maid's "Yes, Your Majesty." "Oh no!" Matthew thought to himself. His horse decided it was a good time to sneeze, and he sneezed very loudly. Sydney looked up and saw Matthew with a pained expression on his face. "You lied to me!" Matthew yelled to Sydney "No, no! I was just afraid. Most people aren't themselves once they find out that I am royalty, and you were just so sweet and handsome and I just wanted to get to know you." Sydney explained. "No. Save it for your next charity case." And with that Matthew rode off into the forrest. "Oh no" Sydney thought to herself "What am I going to do now?!"
"Sweetheart. Is that you making all that ruckus outside?" The King yelled into the night. "Yes, father it's just me.. I wanted to tell my horse goodnight." Sydney lied. "Well come inside, It is quite chilly tonight and you need your rest." The King ordered. "Yes father." Sydney walked inside right pass her father. "Sweetie.. Are you okay?" Sydney looked at him straight in the eyes and thought "No more lies, I am telling him the truth!" And that's what she did. Her father was quite kind about it, he did not approve of her going into town and staying out with a boy that he did not know, but he could see that she loved him, and decided that it was time for her to make her own decisions. Sydney felt so much better after she told her father the truth about everything, he even said she could invite Matthew to the ball. Like that was going to happen after last night.
Sydney went downstairs to eat breakfast with her father. "So are you going to apologize to the young man and invite him to the ball? I would so very much like it if I were able to meet the man you love so dearly." The King asked his daughter. Sydney smiled weakly at her father "I'd love to, and I already did. But if you saw the look on his face when he realized that I was the princess and that I lied to him about it, even you would realized that he isn't going to come." Sydney explained. "If he loves you as much as you love him, he'll come." The King said. Sydney smiled at her father and went back to eating.
A few hours later, Sydney heard a knock on her bedroom door. Who could that be? Sydney thought to herself. To her surprise it was a maid, the maid rushed by Sydney and started getting her clothes set up for Sydney to change into. "Wha… What's going on?" Sydney asked the maid. "I'm not sure, all I know is that the King told me to hurry and get you dressed and rush you to the stables." Within 10 minutes Sydney was dressed and at the stables, waiting for some explanation. The King came out with his horse, and asked Sydney to get her horse prepared. "But, Why? Father what is going on?" Sydney demanded to know. "I will explain it to you on our way to town." Her Father explained. "But, Father you hate going into town. especially with the ball tonight." Sydney said, as she was getting her horse ready. "I don't hate it. There's just so much that goes on there, and I am afraid for your safety." The King explained. "Oh, Father you don't need to worry about me." Sydney explained. " I know that now." Sydney smiled, and hopped onto her horse, her father then did the same. They rode into town, once there Sydney decided to ask her father why they were there, her father's reply "I want you to talk to him." Sydney knew exactly who the King was talking about "But, Father! I can't talk to Matthew! I'm pretty sure he hates me!" "He does not hate you, he was just confused, I'm sure that if he likes you as much as you like him, he will understand. You just have to explain yourself to him." The King explained. "Ugh fine" Sydney said. They rode over to the metal shop, and Sydney hopped off her horse and went inside. "Matthew? Can I talk to you?" Sydney asked, once she saw him. "There's nothing to talk about, you could't trust me with a secret. And That's fine. Oh, By the way I finished your order." Matthew shoved the bag over to Sydney. "It's not like that! I really really like you, and I just didn't want to tell you, because people always either get freaked out and run off or they use me to get to my father." Sydney explained. "I would never do that to you, I like you so much Sydney." Matthew walked over to Sydney and held her hands "In fact, I think I love you." Sydney was shocked to hear him say this, and even more shocked when she realized that she felt the same way about him. "I love you too." They kissed.
A year later they were married, and they lived together in the castle that Sydney now ruled with her husband right by her side, and she could't have been happier. As they sat in their royal thrones Matthew grabbed Sydney's hand and lead her off to the dance floor. "Will you dance with me?" Matthew asked. "Of course." Sydney said. As they were dancing Matthew looked her in the eyes and said "What a wonderful ending." Sydney smiled and said "No, what a wonderful beginning." Matthew leaned down and kissed her, as they danced the night away.
THE END.
